Led-count trainer

The count runs at practice speed. Say the number out loud with it — the trainer keeps the time, and you learn the words in the breath they belong to.

How it is counted

One count is one breath-half: an inhale or an exhale. A held state is five full breaths unless the pose says otherwise. Seated poses are counted the way they are practised — from sapta, with the six counts of the sun salutation before it and the two after it left out, as Sharath Jois notes in Aṣṭāṅga Yoga Anuṣṭhāna. Where the teacher takes an unnumbered breath — the exhale after “head up” — the trainer keeps the time and shows a dot.

Counts vary between teachers and sheets, and a difference is not an error. The numbers here follow the outline page, which says where the sheets disagree.

Learn the words first

If the numbers themselves are new, the Sanskrit drills have them — one to twenty-eight, in both directions.
